The trail opens onto a breathtaking panorama, among the picturesque alleys of the village and the first glimpses of the volcano. We begin to climb gently along a path surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, where the scent of aromatic plants mingles with the sea breeze. As we progress, the landscape transforms: thickets give way to volcanic expanses, terrain that tells stories of lava flows and ancient explosions. On the way up we make stops at elevation 250m and at elevation 350m. Then we reach an altitude of 400m, a strategic vantage point from which you can admire the Sciara del Fuoco, the slope where incandescent lava flows toward the sea. Here time seems to stand still as the sun begins to set, tinging the sky with shades of orange, red and purple. The Strombolian eruptions, with their roars and launches of glowing lapilli, provide a natural spectacle that will leave you breathless. Details of the stromboli trek at sunset

The excursion starts from the heart of Stromboli, at St. Vincent Square, with a meeting scheduled at least 20 minutes before departure time to check equipment, receive instructions from the volcanological guide, and have time to prepare. Departure is in the afternoon, about 2 hours before sunset. This means that the departure time is variable depending on the season, so to ensure that you reach the viewpoint at the best time for sunset. The hike takes about 5 hours in total, including the ascent, stops along the way with guide explanations, and the descent. The trek involves an elevation gain of about 400 meters uphill and the same amount downhill. The trail, while accessible, requires a fair amount of physical fitness and a good walking habit, making it ideal for those who enjoy adventure and exploration.

Trekking price and availability

The Stromboli sunset trek costs €30.00 per person. Included in the price is a volcanological guide to accompany you. Children from 5 to 12 years old pay € 25.00 per person.

We work on the basis of trust. This means that we do not ask for any advance payment. You can pay the same day directly to the guide. It is possible to pay by cash, ATM or credit card.

Clothing, shoes & what to bring

For a good hiking trip, proper preparation is essential. We always recommend dressing in layers. How many and what layers depend on the season. As the sun sets, temperatures drop. In addition, wind can often make the weather seem even colder. A windbreaker and a hat are therefore not a luxury. It is possible to rent hiking shoes and a jacket by contacting your guide or the rental store in Stromboli. We recommend bringing a backpack with at least 1.5 L of water per person. It is also recommended to bring some sweet and/or salty snacks. In total, the hike takes about 5 hours, so always bring something extra to eat! Also don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses! In brief:
